Day 1: The Initiatory Love of God
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8 (KJV)
Reflection: Today, let’s ponder how incredible it is that God’s love isn’t reactive; it’s initiatory. Before we ever made a move toward God, he moved toward us by sending his Son to die on the cross. This love doesn’t check if we’re worthy first, it just pours out, demonstrating the depths to which God will go to prove his love for mankind.
Illustration: Think about a firefighter who rushes into a burning building to save someone. The firefighter doesn’t stand outside asking if the person deserves to be saved; he just goes in to save a life. That’s a glimpse of God’s initiatory love for us.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your love that reached out to me even when I was lost. Help me to understand the depth of that love more each day and show me how I can reflect that initiatory love to those around me. Amen.
