Recognizing Our Hearts – Beneath The Surface| Day 1

Day 1: Recognizing Our Hearts

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Jeremiah 17:9 (KJV)

Reflection: Jeremiah’s words emphasize the deceitful nature of the human heart and its capacity for wickedness. It’s a powerful reminder that, despite our best intentions, we often fall short and harbor sin within our hearts. These hidden sins can be difficult to recognize on our own, and we need God’s discernment to help us identify them. It’s an uncomfortable truth to face, yet crucial for our spiritual growth.

Illustration: Consider a gardener tending to a seemingly healthy tree, only to discover insects eating away at its core. Just as the gardener would need to examine the tree carefully to uncover the hidden problem, so do we need God to search our hearts and reveal the hidden sins within us.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we thank You for Your love and patience with us. We confess that our hearts can harbor sins that we may not even recognize. We invite You to search our hearts and reveal any hidden wickedness. Help us to see ourselves as You do and guide us towards Your righteousness. Amen.
