Day 2: Knowing The Bridegroom
While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
Mathew 25:5-6 (KJV)
Reflection: The bridesmaids slept, but their state of readiness determined their ultimate fate. Recognizing and knowing the Bridegroom when He comes is critical. In our walk with God, a surface-level faith won’t suffice; we need a deep, relational understanding of who Christ is to us.
Illustration: Imagine you’re waiting for a package to be delivered. You’re told it could arrive any time between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., so you decide to take a quick nap, thinking you’ll hear the doorbell. But you sleep through the delivery, and the package is returned to the depot. Just like the bridesmaids missed the bridegroom because they weren’t fully prepared to hear his arrival, you miss out on receiving your package because you weren’t fully alert.
Prayer: Father, may our hearts always be tuned to Your voice. Deepen our relationship with You, so we recognize You instantly, even amidst the clamor of the world. Amen.
