Day 1: Building on the Solid Rock
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock.
Matthew 7:24 (KJV)
Reflection: The teachings of Christ aren’t just to be heard, but also to be acted upon. This is the difference between a solid foundation and a shaky one. A wise man hears the Word of God and implements it into his life, thereby building his life on the unshakeable foundation that is Christ Himself.
Illustration: Imagine a carpenter constructing a house. He has the blueprints before him with the structure precisely engineered, but instead of following them, he decides to improvise. The resulting house could now turn out to be structurally unsound and unstable. So it is with us when we hear God’s Word but don’t apply it in our lives.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, give us wisdom to not only listen to Your Word but to put it into action. Let our lives be built on the solid rock that is Your teachings, standing firm and steadfast. Amen.
